Myspace codes bring adware payload - mashable!

Myspace spyware tracker. Just track visitors. LOz3r, the tracker package I investigated required you to make an account on their server, and splice in some code that used the “embed” tag. When someone visits your MySpace page, this “embed” tag launches a procedure of some sort on the tracker company’s server. The IP address of your visitor, their browser type, and other information is recorded and stored on the tracking company’s server. Then, when you go to the tracking company’s site and log in, you get a report of the information they collected. The problem is that someone could pretend to be running an application that merely logs information, but they could actually launch a program that uses the visitor’s IP address to perform some malicious action. This is why our current advice is to not use any profile visit tracker software. I’d like to see MySpace offer a package of their own (since they clearly use one for their own records, or to provide information to the advertisers) or endorse a specific vendor myspace spyware

It is “spyware” and so many people don’t really know what they’re splicing into their profiles. A tracker application could certainly read cookies. I couldn’t tell if the specific one I looked at did that (I saw only the name of an application that was launched and the type of information they let the person who signed up see). 4. heybiggy Says: May 10th, 2006 at 4:48 am e Um lately i have seen a builletin myspace tracker with a picture of tom saying repost this buelltin and the myspace tracker will be installed on ur computer…and it did work but …i dont know how to take it off …. 5. Ny fake players that were work-safe enough to post here, but you can see one in the comments on this profile if you& 8217;re intrigued. For some reason, most of the affected profiles are on MySpace Music - perhaps because those pages get more traffic than standard profiles. The news comes less than a month after the MySpace Adult Content viewer was discovered, which downloaded a file called myspacecontent.exe. What& 8217;s more, it comes only a few weeks after Mashable Labs counted 3000 pages being used as part of a MySpace phishing attack. That effort was fairly sophisticated, however, since actually it edited the html of MySpace pages to add a fake login form. Once you& 8217;d entered your login details, it would add the log in form to your page, too. It& 8217;s not the first time that Zango& 8217;s adware has appeared on MySpace, either - there was another incident back in July, when it was found that a Zango distributor was setting up a series of MySpace layouts sites - post the videos to your page, and your visitors are prompted to download adware. & 8230; 10.
